Dark Venom: the story, the sound, and the image

Dark Venom — original nVeeism artwork by Nelly Vee.

Some music begins as a melody. For me, Dark Venom began as an experience that eventually found its way into ChronicleS — Where Shadows Breathe. I first approached it through storytelling, using metaphor and suspense to hold the contradictions that a straightforward account could not fully express.

The piece explores the distance between recognizing warning signs and making the choices we believe will lead somewhere different. It does not offer a simple answer. That unresolved tension is part of what connects the written story to the track.

From the page to the music

When Dark Venom became track 22 on my ChronicleS album, it gained a second language. The written work gives the listener a narrative world; the music carries its atmosphere. You can enter through either one without needing the whole story explained in advance.

The image between the words

The nVeeism artwork made for this feature is a third expression of the same work. It is intentionally abstract: memory, attraction, judgment, fracture, and consequence translated into visual tension rather than a literal illustration of the narrative.

I share more of the personal history and creative choices behind Dark Venom in the original Behind the Shadows article on KVI Network. The reflection opens a door into the story without giving away its ending.
